Mary “Wanda” Timmons, 66, of Macclenny, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the VA Medical Center in Lake City. Wanda was born in Jacksonville on January 31, 1960, to William Wardean Timmons and Mary Magdaline Davis Timmons. Wanda was raised in St. George, Georgia, and proudly graduated from St. George High School in 1978. A “professional student” with a deep love for learning, she continued her education in college before answering the call to serve her country. She served with great honor as a jet engine mechanic in the United States Navy from 1993 until her medical discharge in 1999. Following her military service, Wanda embarked on a successful career as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Jacksonville. For years Wanda divided her time between Jacksonville and St. George, but she ultimately made Baker County her forever home in 2022.
Wanda lived life to the fullest and embraced every day with a deep appreciation for the world around her. She was an avid outdoorswoman who found immense joy, and a healthy dose of competitiveness, in fishing. She was also a passionate tinkerer who loved the challenge of demolition projects, fearlessly taking things apart even if putting them back together wasn’t always her strong suit. Wanda was truly a treasure, and her vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Willliam Wardean Timmons; sisters Marie Hillman, Elizabeth “Liz” Lainer and Juanita “Nita” Lamb; and nephew Robbie Solomon.
Wanda leaves behind nieces and nephews William “Bill” (Robin) Lamb, Susan (Scott) Wise, Samantha (Ronald) Sweat, Victoria (Amy Bauer) Lamb, Clyde Strickland, John Adams and Andrea Timmons; along with several great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
A graveside celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 25, at 2:30 p.m. at Jacksonville National Cemetery where military honors will be rendered. The arrangements are under the care of V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services.
