NOTIFICATION TO ALL EMPLOYEES
AND PARENTS AND/OR GUARDIANS OF STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE BAKER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT
In 1986, Congress passed the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA 763.93). This law requires all schools, pre-k/kindergarten through 12th grade, be inspected for asbestos-containing materials. AHERA further requires the development of a management plan that outlines the school district’s intent to control the potential for exposure to asbestos fibers in schools.
A copy of our school district’s asbestos management plan is on file at the Baker County School District Facilities and Maintenance Department and available for inspection by parents, student guardians, teachers, employees, and employee organizations. Copies of individual building inspection reports are on file and available for viewing at the administrative office of each school.
In complying with the notification requirements of AHERA 763.93, the school district is posting this written notice to inform parents, guardians, and employee groups of the availability of the management plans and the details of the response actions that have been taken.
Since the implementation of the management plan in 1989, the district has had several response actions including abatement projects which cleared some areas of all asbestos. The ultimate goal of the district is the complete removal of all asbestos containing building materials as funds become available. Until we are able to reach this goal, existing asbestos containing materials in school district facilities are being maintained in a safe condition, and at this time pose no threat to building occupants, students, or employees.
If asbestos containing material should deteriorate to a condition that requires removal or containment, such measures will be taken. If the material is in a controllable form, it will be systematically controlled until the plan calls for its abatement.
Sincerely,
Chadd Scarborough
Director of Facilities and Maintenance
Baker County School District
