American Legion Post 83 Women Veterans Committee’s Alice Schmitges said the post in Macclenny proudly hosted its first committee meeting on Saturday, July 18, “marking an exciting new chapter in supporting and connecting women veterans throughout Baker County and the surrounding communities.”
“The inaugural meeting brought women veterans together to connect, share experiences, discuss available resources, and begin establishing the goals and future direction of the committee. The meeting provided an opportunity to recognize the unique experiences and contributions of women who have served in the United States Armed Forces while creating a stronger network of support within the local veteran community.
“The Women Veterans Committee will focus on identifying the needs of women veterans, connecting them with resources and services, promoting fellowship, increasing community involvement, and ensuring that women veterans have a strong voice within the veteran community.
“American Legion Post 83 is proud to support this important initiative and looks forward to growing the committee and welcoming more women veterans. Participation is open to women veterans from all branches and eras of military service, regardless of whether they are currently members of The American Legion.
“The first meeting is just the beginning. The committee looks forward to building new connections, developing opportunities to serve women veterans, and recognizing the significant contributions women veterans continue to make in Baker County and beyond.
‘Women veterans who are interested in learning more about the committee or participating in future meetings are encouraged to contact American Legion Post 83.
