Gravelle statement to The Press

The following statement was e-mailed to The Press Tuesday evening. It's been edited to protect the alleged victim's identity.

10 years ago I was brought into a situation that is disgusting and unacceptable at any level. From my personal life of being as good a Christian as I can be, I look upon this event as vile, reprehensible and not worthy of review by any decent human being.

In a failed effort to offer comfort and a stable home atmosphere to a couple and their children, I was dragged into the most nightmarish events, charges and accusations of my life. I want the people of Macclenny who know me and those who have yet to meet me, to know that I did none of these alleged charges brought about by angry and distraught members of this family.

As God as my witness, the only thing I am guilty of is providing a safe haven, sound environment and a roof over the heads of this family who were desperate for help in very trying times.

I’m willing to meet anyone, anywhere, anytime to share what I know and God knows to be the truth about these false charges.

My strong faith in God and devotion to my family will be my guide through this politically motivated unveiling of information.

City commission candidate targeted in 2004 child sex battery investigation

Macclenny City Commission candidate and Republican Party of Baker County chairman Kirk Gravelle was the suspect in a child sex battery investigation back in 2004, but the case was dropped when state attorneys here and in Jacksonville declined to prosecute.

Mr. Gravelle, a financial planner for Morgan Stanley in Jacksonville, allegedly had a six-month consensual sexual relationship with an under-age girl, who along with her family, was living with the suspect and his family in the Mandarin area before they all moved to Macclenny in 2002.

Mr. Gravelle denied the allegations, calling them, “false and vindictive.”

Fall baseball is cancelled

Baker County Little League cancelled this year’s fall baseball season due to a lack of players signing up.

“Unfortunately, after totaling the numbers we don’t have enough players in any age group to run fall ball this season,” said league official Melissa Burnsed. “We will be calling parents this week about check shredding and refunds.”
