Residents along Cow Pen Road waited years for the county to pave their central county roadway, which the county finished last year.

But there’s a side road off Cow Pen, Fred Harvey Road, where the pavement ends and a section of dirt right-of-way continues west for about seven-tenths of a mile before the paved section of Fred Harvey begins and connects with CR 127.

One reader opined recently on The Press Facebook wall that the paving gap on Fred Harvey was an example of wasteful spending by county government and wondered how it got  there in the first place.

Wildcat training camp begins, no pads for week one

The BCHS football program opened up its training camp Monday and is holding practices in preparation for the upcoming season.

The JV and varsity teams will practice every afternoon this week after going through walkthroughs in the morning. New FHSAA rules dictate teams cannot hit through the first five days of practice, so the team will run noncontact position drills and focus on the fundamentals until then.

Health insurance costs are ballooning

The cost of health insurance for Baker County employees is going up. Exactly how much, and how it could affect benefits, will be decided in the coming weeks.

The particulars will be determined by the county’s insurance committee, which includes the county manager and employees, working with the county’s insurance consultant Owen & Associates.
