Two Lake City motorists were killed today and a 3-year-old boy seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision at the I-10 interchange with U.S. 90, a location known for serious wrecks.
A bystander who saw the accident, Edward Taylor, also of Lake City, said he removed the boy, Bentley Bennett, from the 2002 Ford Taurus involved in the crash. The boy was flown to UF Health of Jacksonville, formerly Shands, by TraumaOne with a teddy bear in his arms.
The Ford’s driver, Richard Owen Ratliff, 60, and Anne Rykard Ratliff, 58, were dead at the scene. The Lake City Reporter editor Robert Bridges said Mrs. Ratliff worked for the newspaper as a contractor.
