Day 100 of the school year at Pre-K Kindergarten Center

Students and teachers at the Pre-K Kindergarten Center on E. South Blvd. marked the 100th day of the school year February 3 by dressing up like geriatrics.

Teachers dawned grey wigs, robes, slippers, bifocals  or all of the above  and some like school principal Bonnie Jones completed the look with a walker. Children participated as well, some employing hair nets or faux beards made of face paint.

Activities for the day also incorporated the number 100.

“We’ve had so much fun today,” said pre-K teacher Amy Dennison, adding that one lesson tasked children with counting out 100 fruit loops and forming them into a necklace.

Barbara Hanover, 84, of St. George

Barbara Louise Hanover, 84, of St. George, GA died January 31, 2012 at Folkston Park Care and Rehab Center. Miss Hanover resided in St. George for the past 20 years and was a graduate of Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Clinton D. and Irma I Hanover Jr. She grew up in Long Island, NY and was a member of Grace Baptist Fellowship Church in St. George. She is preceded in death by sisters Marion Virginia Meyer and Carole Kinister.

Survivors include brother Clinton D. Hanover III, Arlington, VA; special niece Eugenie (Patrick) Ahearn, Port Jefferson, NY; other nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

A graveside service was held Thursday, February 2 at 2 pm at St. George Cemetery with Rev. Gene Burnsed officiating. Guerry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Eugene Ford, 95, of Sanderson

Deacon Eugene Ford, 95, of Sanderson died Friday, February 3, 2012 at Ed Fraser Hospital in Macclenny following an extended illness. He was born in Selma, AL to the late Delilah and Robert Ford. Mr. Ford was a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ where he served on the deacon board, a member of the evangelist team for the Church of God in Christ, western Florida district and deacon of New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Mack Ruise. He was the gate keeper for the Quitman Cemetery Association for over 15 years.

Survivors include wife Thelma Ford; sons Sylvester (Dorothy) Ford, Levice (Sandra) Daniel, Sammie Lee (Denise) Daniels, Jimmie (Joyce) Daniel, Issac Daniel, Purcel Daniel, Syril Ford, Eugene Ford Jr and Charlie (Jennifer) Denmark; daughters Mercilee (Rev. Dr. Rodney) Brown, Carlene Denmark, Caroline (John Reed) Denmark, Linda (Richard) Mills and Sherrie (Recardo) Mathews; 32 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; mother-in-law Lucile Durham; father-in-law George E. Durham; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Robert Howard of Glen St. Mary

Robert Clarence Howard, 80, died February 6, 2012. He was the son of the late Clarence Leigh Howard and Helen Mary Reil and lived in Argyle, Wildwood, FL and most recently Glen St. Mary. Mr. Howard was employed by the former Seaboard Air Line Railroad and fire departments in Wildwood, Baldwin and Dinsmore. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War and received the Meritorious Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Medal and Korean Unit Citation.

Survivors include his loving wife of 29 years Betty Griffis Howard; daughter Cathy Watson of Wildwood; step-daughters Hazel Ann Finley of Lake City, Maryland (Virgil) Johns of Glen St. Mary and Cathy (Don) Orman; step-sons Kenneth (Dawn) Brannen, William (Diane) Rhoden, David (Darlene) Rhoden, Joseph (Dana) Fenell, Gene (Lisa) Fenell; several grand- and great-grandchildren.
