Baker boys after 10-11 district title

The Little League’s 10-11 baseball all-star team is pictured above following their recent district championship win. The squad went on to beat Merritt Island 4-2 in its first sectional game before falling to DeLand 11-4 in the following contest. Tax hike by Macclenny City Commission ‘tentative’

After receiving a report on new construction permits that should help broaden Macclenny’s tax base, city commissioners tentatively approved the city manager’s request for a 13.8 percent property tax hike last week.

If the higher rate remains in the 2013-14 budget, which begins October 1, property owners would begin paying 4.1 mills, or $4.10 for every $1,000 of assessed value, instead of 3.6 mills.

City panel reduces setbacks for Copper Creek homeowners’ pool, carport

Two Copper Creek homeowners went before Macclenny’s Zoning Adjustment Board on the evening of July 15 seeking variances to setback requirements, including one who wanted to have a structure built on his property line, and both left satisfied.

The five-member board granted both requests, one allowing James Bennett to have an in-ground pool installed behind his house at 1109 Copper Field Circle and the other permitting Randy Smith to build a carport-type storage structure attached to his house at 1305 Copper Creek Drive.
