Three persons were arrested in the early morning hours of March 17 as county deputies uncovered a drug packaging operation in a Macclenny motel room.
One of the suspects is charged with attempting to run over a county deputy before leading them on a high-speed chase through a nearby residential neighborhood.
Deputy Daryl Mobley responded to a disturbance call at the Econolodge on Woodlawn Rd. shortly after midnight, and about the time he and Deputy Chris Walker reached the area a vehicle left the motel on Woodlawn Rd. at high speed and entered Interstate 10 eastbound.
Deputy Walker and Cpl. Matt Riegel stopped it shortly after and took Shameka Armstrong, 32, of Jacksonville into custody.
She allegedly had kicked out a motel room window, and when officers went to investigate they found the room unoccupied and evidence that it was being used to package marijuana into small baggies for sale.
They also found powder and crack cocaine and $790 in cash, along with a wallet belonging to Delvin Manning, 32, of Macclenny.
Shortly after, motel manager Karon Clark alerted officers that one of the persons staying in the room had pulled back into the parking lot.
The 2013 Chevrolet driven by Jimmy Manning, 28, of Macclenny quickly turned around and headed for the exit, its mirror striking Deputy Mobley as it sped off.
The driver and the person whose wallet was in the room are brothers and reside at the same Grissholm St. address.
Several officers gave chase, led by Lt. Scotty Rhoden, who got behind the Chevrolet as it turned on Tom Norman Rd., then sped east into the Macclenny II neighborhood on Pine and then Estates, where other officers were closing in.
The chase ended when the suspect lost control of the Chevrolet and was struck a second time by Deputy Mobley’s patrol car. It had also collided with a patrol vehicle driven by Deputy Jacob Satterwhite.
Several hours later, Deputy Mobley arrested Delvin Manning as he walked north on South 6th St. He had $590 cash in a pants pocket.
Lt. Rhoden inventoried the motel room and said it contained a large glass container of marijuana, an electronic scale, boxes of small baggies commonly used to package pot, a baggie of powder cocaine, baggie of crack cocaine, shoe boxes with packaged baggies of pot and the cash.
Jimmy Manning was booked for aggravated battery on Deputy Mobley, felony fleeing police, felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of cocaine.
Delvin Manning is charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell. Ms. Armstrong was booked for criminal mischief.
