ShareVonnie Griffis, 69, of Sanderson died on November 11, 2012 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, with family by her side. She was born in Lake City on March 1, 1943 to the late Charles Franklin Russ and Ina Bell Douglas Murray. Vonnie had been a resident of Sanderson since 1965 after moving from Lake City. She was a member of Cuyler Baptist Church and retired from Griffis Timber Inc. as an office manager after 40 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed cooking, fishing and gardening, but most of all she enjoyed being surrounded by grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Joseph Edward Russ.
Mrs. Griffis is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Willie Griffis of Sanderson; children Edward (Leona) Griffis, Patricia (Mike) Heppner, Debbie J. (Max) Smith, Ray (Melita) Griffis, Allen (Mary) Griffis, Penny (Eddie) Croft and Keith (Tabitha) Griffis; brothers Fletcher Russ, Charles (Diane) Russ, John A. (Joanne) Murray sister Mary (Stanley) Baldwin; 22 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 15 at 11 am at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services chapel in Macclenny with pastors Fred Raulerson and Mike Norman officiating. Interment will follow at Olustee Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 14 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
