Restore Medicare dialysis subsidies

Dear Editor:

Yes, as of July 1, 2013 the federal government released a proposal to dramatically cut dialysis reimbursement 12 percent. Mandated by Congress to reflect providers’ efficiency in reducing the cost of care, the cut goes too far. If the proposal is finalized, Medicare would fail to cover the basic cost of dialysis.

Brenda Akers, 63, of Sanderson dies

AkersBrenda Joyce Caraway Odom Akers, 63, of Sanderson died on August 22, 2013 at her residence with family by her side. She was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee on June 28, 1950. In 1983, Brenda moved from Gary, IN to Jacksonville and for the past 10 years she was a resident of Baker County.
