Fire destroys west county trailer

DSC_0043A stingy water supply and flames whipped by gusty east winds combined to heighten the damage to this double-wide trailer on the property of Kenneth and Sharon Moore off US 90 west of Interstate 10 the afternoon of September 10.

Flames and heavy smoke shot through the roof as the first of six county fire units responded to the 5 pm alarm.

A family member said a grease fire was the cause, but county fire chief Steven Marfongella said late Tuesday the cause was still under investigation. The trailer was one of five situated on the property on the south side DSC_0027of 90, and was a total loss.

All occupants got out safely before emergency trucks arrived. At one point before the county’s large tanker truck arrived at the scene, water was siphoned from a nearby pond.DSC_0046
