Cecil M. Hayes, a longtime pastor

Cecil M. Hayes, 85, of Macclenny died August 15, 2012 at the Earl B. Hadlow Center in Jacksonville. He was born in Atlanta on April 26, 1927. Mr. Hayes was a U.S. Army veteran and worked at the former Riverside Hospital in Jacksonville as an assistant administrator for many years, but was best known as a pastor at several Congregational Holiness Churches in Florida and Atlanta. He was also a former pastor of the Christian Fellowship Temple in Macclenny and later retired from pastoring United Methodist churches in the Atlanta and Western North Carolina areas.

Rev. Hayes graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor of business administration degree, from Emory University with a master of divinity degree, Luther Rice Seminary with a master of theology degree, and American Divinity School with a doctor of divinity degree. He was also an avid Georgia Bulldog fan.

Ida Mallory, 87, was retired nurse

Ida Allene Mallory, 87, of Starke died on August 20, 2012 at Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City after a short stay. She was born in Raceland, Kentucky on December 13, 1924 to the late Troy Grizzell and Ida Bell Phillips-Grizzell. She graduated from South Charleston High School in South Charleston, West Virginia in 1942 and married Garland Mallory on January 5, 1943. She spent most of her life in West Virginia before moving to Starke with Garland in 1973. Garland died on January 5, 1992,  their 49th wedding anniversary.

Allene graduated from Marshall University with a degree in nursing and was a nurse in Ohio, West Virginia, and Florida before retiring as a registered nurse supervisor in 1991. During World War II, she built airplanes in Akron, OH, and later worked at a glass bottle plant before going to nursing school. Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by daughter Cynthia Gayle Johnson, grandson Cory Frounfelter, great-granddaughter Christina Frounfelter, sister Betty Curry; and brothers Ray and Troy Grizzell Jr.

Gwen McNutt, 85, former resident

Gwen Marie Dugger McNutt, 85, died on Monday, August 13, 2012. She was born on February 5, 1927 in Lewistown, PA and was a dental assistant for about 40 years in Miami, West Palm Beach and Raiford, FL. She loved music and cooking, and was a queen mother of the Red Hat Ladies.

She was married to the late Eulie (Doug) Dugger and resided in Baker County for many years before moving to Newland, N.C. where she re-married. In late 2011, she moved back to Jacksonville to live with niece Melissa Haynes and family.

Ms. Montalbano, 64, of Macclenny

Brenda L. Montalbano, 64, of Macclenny died on August 19, 2012. She was born on September 3, 1947 in Eldorado, IL and was preceded in death by her father Robert Lee Hoole and her husband Paul Montalbano, both of Illinois. She attended Soul’s Harbor Church of God in Glen St. Mary and was the church secretary.

Mrs. Montalbano is survived by mother Dorothy (Hoole) Maxwell; daughters Jane (Jeff) Szczepaniak and Jennifer Montalbano, all of Illinois; two brothers, two sisters, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
