The ‘Whitt effect’ on a kid

Back on July 14, 1988, I wrote a column honoring Mrs. Louise Whitt on her retirement. Here is a slightly updated version of that column. Mrs. Whitt died on Monday just a few days shy of her 100th birthday. I’m not sure God ever made many women better than her. God blessed her with almost a century on this earth and blessed all of us who knew her even more.

Preserve custodial jobs

Dear Editor:

I’m writing in regard to the article titled “Students removed from janitor corps” in last week’s edition. Baker School Related Personnel Association (BSRPA) represents non-teacher employees of the Baker County school district. As president of the union, I feel I should make your readers aware that we are not against students working in custodial positions. In fact, there are many BSRPA and Baker County Education Association (BCEA) members who have children currently working in these positions. Read More »
