D.W. Robinson of Baldwin dies

D.W. Robinson, 87, of Baldwin died on March 20, 2013. He was born on November 7, 1925 to the late Ervin and Maggie (Heaton) Robinson and was a foreman at Farnell’s Dairy, owned Robinson’s service station, was the Baldwin fire chief from 1976-1980 and a captain and assistant chief of police from 1972-1981. Most recently, Mr. Robinson retired from Walmart after 25 years. He attended Temple Baptist Church.

Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by daughter Brenda Dale Robinson and his wife of 63 years, Sarah Lee Oliver Robinson. He is survived by daughters Mildred (Dub) Cobb, Judy (Jim) Harper, Wanda Robinson and Roxanne (Chuck) Spitzer; ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; sister Betty Payne.

Jack Rhoden, 55, dies in Tennessee

Jack Rhoden, 55, died on March 29, 2013 after a lengthy illness at his cabin home in Del Rio, Tennessee in his beloved Smoky Mountains. He was a Baker County native and the son of the late Dorothy M. Rhoden and the late Fletcher Rhoden of Macclenny.

He is survived by daughter Brandi Brown and son Jack Brady (Brad) Rhoden Jr., both of Macclenny; granddaughter Sydney Brown; grandsons Derek Brown and Mason Rhoden; the love of his life and fiancée Vicki Watson of Baldwin; sister Kimberly Lindsey (John) of Branford; brothers Jamie Rhoden (Jane) of Macclenny and Steve Rhoden (Sandra) of Houston Texas; nieces Krystal Rhoden of Macclenny, Stephanie Wilson (Todd) of Biloxi, Mississippi, Candace Naughton (Tim) of Branford;  nephews Christopher Rhoden (Kristin) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Tyler Rhoden (Nicole) of Nashville, Tennessee and Aaron Lindsey (Arika) of Tallahassee.

Marie W. Ailes, owned school of dance

Marie W. Ailes, a former Macclenny resident, died March 12, 2013 in Orange Park. She was a Baptist and a member of the American Ballroom Dance Association and the Jacksonville Ballroom Dance Association. For many years she owned and operated the Maria Douglas School of Ballroom Dance, and she studied under many teachers including two in Havana, Cuba learning Latin Dance. She danced in exhibitions on television, in private clubs and in many public dance shows, contributing her time and money to fund raising for many charities. In later years she devoted her time to her large and scattered family.

Al Cummings, 75, Navy, T-U retiree

Arlan “Al” Francis Cummings, 75, of Glen St. Mary died on March 30, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville. Al was born in Bakersfield, Vermont on November 11, 1937 to the late Harold Vernon Cummings and Marchaline Isabell Britch Cummings. Al was a resident of Macclenny for 35 years after moving from California. He retired from the United States Navy after 21 years of dedicated service, including duty during the Vietnam War.

He also retired from the Florida Times-Union after 20 years in the maintenance department. Al attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and enjoyed fishing, bowling, watching television and building car and airplane models. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
