Patrick Kogut, 61, owner-operator, dies

Kogut Patrick Michael Kogut, age 61, of Macclenny, died September 27, 2011.

Patrick was born in Rockaway Beach, New York to the late John Kogut and Margaret Townsend Kogut on March 17, 1950. He was a resident of Baker County for the last 8 years after moving from San Juan Puerto Rico and was the owner and operator of Pat Kogut trucking. He enjoyed fishing, karaoke, driving his truck and listening to oldies music. He was predeceased by his seven brothers and a step-son.  

Survivors include wife of 12 years Brenda Ramirez Kogut of Macclenny; eight children and 15 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 29 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home.  V. Todd Ferreira Funeral service is in charge of the arrangements.

Kathleen Wymer-Lilly, 60, volunteer counselor, dies

Kathleen Adell Wymer-Lilly, 60, of Macclenny died September 20, 2011. She was born in Pittsburgh. PA to Dorothy Kuchar and the late Steven Kuchar on February 17, 1951. She was a resident of Baker County since 2000 after moving from Tampa and a member of Cornerstone Congregational Methodist Church.

Mrs. Lilly enjoyed crafting, needlework, crocheting, knitting and served as a volunteer counselor at the NEFSH drop-in center. She was predeceased by son Jimmy Whyte and son-in-law Mike Fricke.

Survivors include her mother Dorothy Kuchar; her husband of 20 years, Robert “Bob” Lilly of Macclenny; children Steven Wymer, Wendy Fricke, Susan Kay Lilly, Steven Charles Lilly, Sarah Jane Everidge and Scott Robert Lilly, all of Tampa. 

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.  V. Todd Ferrerra Funeral Services is in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth Owen, 66, retired forestry tech, dies

Kenneth Paul Owen, 66, of Olustee died Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the Suwannee Valley Care Center of Lake City after an extended illness.

Mr. Owen was born in Ocala and lived all his life in Olustee. He retired in 2009 as a forestry technician with the U.S. Forestry Service. Mr. Owen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Olustee where he was a Sunday school superintendent and a trustee. He was the son of the late Davis Hawkins and Katie Gertrude Mikell Owen.

Survivors include wife Glenda Walker Owen of Olustee, sons Kenneth P. (Sara) Owen Jr of Lake Butler, Kevin Walker Owen and Klate Armster Owen, both of Olustee; half-sisters Martha Sue Holder and Mary Bell Starbird, both of Homestead; brothers Rev. Melvin (Laura) Owen of Olustee and Jerry (Bonnie) Owen of Glen St. Mary; grandchildren Kenneth P. “Trey” Owen, Sara Allyson Owen and Amy Michelle Owen.

The funeral service will be held Friday, September 30 at 11:00 am at his church with Bro. James Croft and Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Olustee Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Archer Funeral Home in Lake Butler on Thursday from 6-8 pm.

Lorayne Rhoden, 86, of Macclenny, dies

Lorayne McCormick Johns Rhoden, 86, of Macclenny died Friday, September 23, 2011 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville.

Mrs. Rhoden was a lifelong resident of Baker County and the last surviving child to the late John D. and Lillie Leigh McCormick.

She was an Avon representative during the 1970’s in Baker County, the Past Worthy Matron of the OES, and the Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls Hilliard Assembly. Mrs. Rhoden was a devout Christian and member of Faith Baptist Church in Macclenny. She enjoyed listening to ministers preach, gospel music on cassette tapes and crocheting. Mrs. Rhoden was preceded in death by son John Marvin Johns in 2006.

Survivors include sons Porter Johns (Barbara) of Waycross and J.D. “Butch” Johns (Ann) of Glen St. Mary; daughters Maime D. Cole (Martin) and Joan Johns, both of Macclenny; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Sunday, September 25 at 3:00 pm at her church with Rev. Torran Dismuke officiating. Interment followed at Oak Grove Cemetery. Guerry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
