Mary Cole, 85 NEFSH retiree

Mary Lou Cole, 85, of Macclenny died October 9, 2011 at Baptist Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born on February 16, 1926 in Macclenny to Quentin T. and Ida Mae Dugger Milton. She graduated in 1944 from Macclenny High School and married Thomas J. Cole on April 7, 1944. They made their home in Miami and Key Largo, moving back to Macclenny in 1974 to build their retirement home.

Mrs. Cole retired from Northeast Florida State Hospital and was a member of Christian Fellowship Temple Church. She is preceded in death by husband Tom, son Tommy, daughter Shirley Glenda, grandson Malcolm (Boo) Chmielewski and sister Marion M. Lyons.

Survivors include her sister Sharon Chiasson of Macclenny, brothers Allen and Gary Milton of Macclenny; grandchildren Dawn Chmielewski, Sheila Finnegan, Richard, Jay, Timmy, Travis and Charles Cole, Robert Lynn Ryan and Sean Wilson; 11 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; her very best friends and “surrogate family” Charles and Peggy Hall and children Amanda and Kenny. Many other nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 13 at 3 pm in the chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with the Rev. David Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm prior to the service.

‘Kitty’ Crawford, 83, Moniac native

Catherine “Kitty” Crawford, 83, of Pompano Beach died October 6, 2011. She was born in Moniac to the late Barney Crawford and Mary Raulerson Crawford on May 2, 1928. She spent her childhood years in Baker County. Kitty worked as a Merchant Marine for 10 years and then was self-employed as a property investor. She enjoyed playing golf, her computer, working in real estate and gardening. She was predeceased by her brothers Broward, Milton, Orie, Donald and Edsel Crawford and sisters Arie and Susie Crawford.

Survivors include daughter JoAnne (Charles E.) Stephens of Fultondale, AL; sister Mildred Bunting of Dearborn, MI; grandchildren Sabrina Stephens of Louisville, KY, Steve Stephens of Fultondale, AL and a great-grandson due at the end of this month, Kayden Chasney Stephens.

The funeral service was held October 10 at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services Chapel in Macclenny with Pastor Ricky Dyal officiating. Interment followed at North Prong Cemetery in Taylor.

Darlene Fish, 68, of Glen St. Mary

 

Wilma Darlene Fish, 68, died October 2, 2011 after a lengthy illness. She lived in Glen St. Mary for the last 50 years, and was the daughter of the late Freeman and Wilma Padgett. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses.

Survivors include husband of 52 years Leo Fish; brother Ronnie Padgett; children Doreen (Bill) Johns, Robert “Bobby” Fish, Lamar (Michelle Holman) Fish, grandchildren David Johns II, Melissa (Robbie) Combs, Tanner and Parker Holman; great grandchildren David Johns III, McKinly Combs, and Alissa Johns.

The family had a private service on October 7 with Elder Scott Booze officiating. Forbes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Sandra Johnson dies September 28

Sandra A. Johnson of Jacksonville died September 28, 2011. She was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Baldwin and also regularly attended Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. She was a graduate of William M. Raines High School, class of 1973.

Ms. Johnson was the daughter of Jessie (Betty) Johnson and the late Fred Johnson Sr. Other than her mother, she is survived by sister Bettye Johnson; brother Fred Johnson Jr.; aunt Sarah Register; uncle Clifford Register; a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held Saturday, October 8 at 1 pm at her church with Rev. Jimmy Copeland officiating. Interment followed at Piney Grove Cemetery. Carthage Chapel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
