Ella Rafuse, 86, of Maxville, dies December 4

Ella Mae Rafuse, 86, of Baker County died December 4, 2011. Ella was born in Palatka to the late Andrew and Vertie Scully Harris on November 12, 1925. She was a lifelong resident of Maxville and a member of Long Branch Baptist Church. Ella retired after 30 years as the cashier for Lucas Mini Mart. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, O.J. Rafuse, daughter Debbie Rhoden and brother Millard Harris.

Survivors include sons Randy (Linda) Rafuse and Oscar James (Donette) Rafuse Jr; brothers Sam (Bernice) Harris of Baldwin and Richard (Glenda) Harris of Macclenny; sister Verdine Harris of Baldwin; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral service was held Wednesday December 7 at 2 pm at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services chapel with pastors Richard Fish and Edward Treadwell officiating. Interment followed at Long Branch Cemetery in Maxville.

William Walker Sr. of Glen

William Benjamin “Ben” Walker Sr., 84, of Glen St. Mary died with his family by his side on November 29, 2011 at Acosta –Rua Center for Caring after a long illness. Mr. Walker was born on February 26, 1927 to the late O. K. “Kenneth” Walker and Rosa Stone Walker. He was a life long resident of Baker County and a graduate of Taylor High School. He worked at Dinkins Ford dealership for 10 years, Griffin Chevrolet and Sands Motor Company for 20 years and then retired from the Department of Corrections after 17 years.

Mr. Walker was a member of Faith Baptist Church for 58 years. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, springtime gardening and vacations in the Smokey Mountains with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Myrtice Taylor Walker; brother Billy (Nettie) Walker of Jacksonville; children Bobby (Molly) Johns of Macclenny, Kenneth (Ruth) Walker of Charlotte, Mary Lillian (Thomas) Mobley of Glen St. Mary and “Benny” William (Robin) Walker Jr. of Lexington, KY; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held on Friday, December 2 at his church with pastors Torran Dismuke and Donnie Williams officiating. Interment followed in Taylor Cemetery.  V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services was in charge of the arrangements.

Jane Williams of Rochester, NY

Jane Smith Williams of Rochester, NY died Saturday, December 3, 2011. She was born to the late John Robert (J.R.) and Elizabeth Smith in Sanderson on June 20, 1960 and graduated in 1978 from Baker County High School in Macclenny. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Rockport University of Rochester.

Missionary Williams served faithfully in the Church of God by Faith in Sanderson and in Rochester. She was consecrated as a Minister of the Churches of God by Faith Inc. in July of 2007. Jane also served as the director of day care at Ark of the Covenant Church of God by Faith in Rochester. Everyone who came in contact with Missionary Williams knew she loved the Lord.

Survivors include her loving husband Lionel Williams; children A.J. Cowart, Ashley Cowart and Jamal Cowart, all of Rochester; brothers John Robert Smith Jr. (Cassandra) of Indianapolis, Jeffrey Smith (Debra) of Lake Butler, Jerome Smith of Brunswick, GA  and Reginald Smith (Kathy) of Sanderson; sisters Donna Smith and Bridget Williams (Vincent) of Brunswick; loving aunts and uncles numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The wake will be held Friday, December 9 from 7 pm to 9 pm at Ark of the Covenant Church of God by Faith in Rochester, NY. The celebration of life service will be on Saturday, December, 10 at 11:00 am at the same location with Pastor Nolan Williams officiating. Regency Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Johnny Farmer Sr., 64, of Jacksonville dies

Attorney Johnny Franklin Farmer Sr. of Jacksonville died November 25, 2011.

Mr. Farmer was born October 29, 1947 in Pine Top west of Glen St. Mary, the son of the late Melvin and Annie Farmer. He attended public schools in Baker County and graduated from Keller High, class of 1966. He was a member of Greater Church of God by Faith in Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by  brothers Lawrence Baker, Elisha Farmer, Charles Belford and  sisters  Mary Farmer and Bessie Coleman.

Survivors include devoted wife of 39 years, Georgiana Farmer; children Zabrina Farm­­er and Johnny Farmer Jr; grandchildren Jasmyn Clements and Imani Clements; brother Thomas Belford (Corrine) of Stone Mountain, GA; sisters Carrie Jones of Margaretta, Rozanne Rouse (Edward) of Katy, TX, Ruby Pittman (Leroy) of Baldwin, Betty Brown (Alphonso) and LuAnne Williams (Vern),  both of Macclenny; mother-in-law Louise Brown Miller; sister-in-law Hildrey Brown and brother-in-law Frederick Brown; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

A wake will be held at Holmes-Glover-Solomon Funeral Home Thursday, December 1 from 4-7 pm. The funeral service will be at his church Friday, December 2 at 11:00 am.
