Gloria Dean Rhoden Kicklighter of Jacksonville dies

Gloria Dean Rhoden Kicklighter, 75, of Jacksonville died November 14, 2011.

She was born in Baker County to the late Russell Rhoden and Beatrice Williams on March 31, 1936. Gloria was raised in Baker County and moved to Jacksonville after school. She returned to Baker County in 1997. She was a Primitive Baptist.

Gloria enjoyed gardening, bowling, going to yard sales and going on cruises. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years Donald Raymond Kicklighter Sr. and son Jimmy Lamar Kicklighter.

Survivors include children Diane Widner, Donald Raymond Kicklighter Jr., Debra Smith, Thomas C. Kicklighter, Wanda Turner, Barbara Hartzog, Polly Wooten and Daniel Roy Kicklighter; brother Garland “PeeWee” Rhoden; 21 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, November 16 at 11:30 am at the Primitive Baptist Church in Macclenny with Elders David Crawford and Gordon Smith officiating. Interment followed at Taylor Cemetery in Sanderson. V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

Lorene Owens, 84, of Macclenny

Lorene Wynn Owens, 84, of Macclenny died November 5, 2011 following an extended illness.

Better known as “Granny” to all who knew and loved her, Lorene always put family first. She loved her friends, traveling, and eating out, or as she would say, “Let’s go boogity.” She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Carl D. Owens, two sons, one great-grand daughter, two brothers, and four sisters.

Survivors include daughters Betty (Jimmy) Gatlin of Macclenny, Debra (Larry) Hughes of Inglis, FL, six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and several beloved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life was held at 1 pm on November 12, 2011 in the chapel of A.M. Seigler Funeral Home in Mulberry, FL with Pastor Derrell Owens (nephew) and Pastor Bob Christmas officiating. Interment followed at Beulah Cemetery in Keysville, FL with her grandchildren serving as pallbearers.

Lois Pringle, 84, a NEFSH retiree dies

Cecilia “Lois” Beasley Pringle, 84, of Middleburg died November 13, 2011.

She was born in Olustee to the late Laury Beasley and Lettie Viola Sweat Beasley on June 15, 1927. She was a life long resident of Baker County and retired in 2002 from Northeast Florida State Hospital where she worked for 55 years as a nurse.

Lois loved her dog, cats, birds and painting with oil paint. She was predeceased by her husband Roy Pringle; twin brother Cecil Beasley; sister Jeanette Combs; brothers Elzy Beasley and Dewey Beasley.

Survivors include brother Elic Beasley of Orange Park; sister Betty Jean (Pete) Peters of Sanderson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Final disposition will be cremation with a burial at Olustee Cemetery at a later date. V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Penny Katsacos, NEFSH retiree, dies

Penny W. Katsacos, 59, a lifelong resident of Macclenny, died Thursday, November 3, 2011, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center  surrounded by loving family and friends following a lengthy battle with systemic sclerosis.

Penny will long be remembered for her love of life, including gardening, cooking, camping, traveling, fishing, boating, gospel singing and spending time with family and friends. Her quick wit, amazing sense of humor  and sense of adventure brought joy and laughter to all who had the pleasure of being in her life.

Penny was a great leader and motivator known for leading by example, straightforward communications, stubborn determination and perseverance in the face of great adversity. She retired in 2007 after 33 ½ years at Northeast Florida State Hospital where she was a psychiatric aide, registered nurse, nurse manager and director of nursing.

She was an active member of Christian Fellowship Temple where she sang in the choir and performed in the puppet ministry. Penny’s love of Jesus was evident in her compassion for people and generous spirit. She was predeceased by parents Vernon and Willa Jean Walker and husband James A. Katsacos.

Survivors include sons Nick Katsacos (Tamara), Joey Katsacos (Ashley), both of Macclenny; brothers Danny Walker (Charlotte), St. Pete Beach, Keith Walker (Denise), Glen St. Mary, Kevin Walker (Teresa), Macclenny; sister Jean Marie Brazell (Mike), Kingsland, GA; grandson Nathan Katsacos; best friend forever Debby Norman; ten nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service was held Saturday, November 5 at 11 am at her church. Donations may be made in her memory to the Missions Fund at CFT. Forbes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
