Polly Lane, 87, of Coca Beach

Pauline M. “Polly” Lane, 87, died Saturday, November 26, 2011 in a house fire at her home in Cocoa Beach.

She was born in New Bedford, MA on June 20, 1924. Polly was preceded in death by her husband Thomas G. Lane.

Survivors include sisters Bertha Brown and Irene Lavoie of New Bedford; daughter Joanne (Richard) Wallstedt of Macclenny; son Robert Shields of Leland, NC; grandchildren Brian (Michele) Wallstedt, Donald Wallstedt and Robert Owen Shields; great-grandchildren Jacob Michael and Jesslyn Nicole Wallstedt.

The funeral service was held Thursday, December 1 at the Church of Our Saviour Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach. Interment followed at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.

Jerry Moran, 76, of Macclenny dies

Jerry Ronald Moran, 76, of Macclenny died Saturday, December 3, 2011. He was born on November 22, 1935 in New Richmond, Ohio and was a lifelong resident of Macclenny. He was preceded in death by his parents Everitt and Flora Moran, son Donnie Moran and brother Everitt Moran.

Mr. Moran was a successful business owner of Moran’s Motor and Wrecker Service and Moran’s Motor Parts for many years, retiring in 1998. He was heavily involved in dirt track racing for 45 years and was inducted into the Jacksonville Raceways Hall of Fame in 1996. He enjoyed dirt track racing, fishing and his dogs. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Macclenny.

Survivors include wife of 58 years, Faye Moran of Macclenny; sons Steve (Sonya) Moran and Ricky (Robin) Moran, both of Macclenny and Ronnie (Amanda) Moran of Glen St. Mary; sister Ellen Hilliard of Tampa; daughter-in-law Christean (Tom) Raley of Glen St. Mary; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Tuesday, December 6 at his church with Pastor Mike Ramondetta officiating, assisted by Revs. James D. Rogers and Torran Dismuke. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Macclenny. Guerry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ella Rafuse, 86, of Maxville, dies December 4

Ella Mae Rafuse, 86, of Baker County died December 4, 2011. Ella was born in Palatka to the late Andrew and Vertie Scully Harris on November 12, 1925. She was a lifelong resident of Maxville and a member of Long Branch Baptist Church. Ella retired after 30 years as the cashier for Lucas Mini Mart. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, O.J. Rafuse, daughter Debbie Rhoden and brother Millard Harris.

Survivors include sons Randy (Linda) Rafuse and Oscar James (Donette) Rafuse Jr; brothers Sam (Bernice) Harris of Baldwin and Richard (Glenda) Harris of Macclenny; sister Verdine Harris of Baldwin; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral service was held Wednesday December 7 at 2 pm at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services chapel with pastors Richard Fish and Edward Treadwell officiating. Interment followed at Long Branch Cemetery in Maxville.

William Walker Sr. of Glen

William Benjamin “Ben” Walker Sr., 84, of Glen St. Mary died with his family by his side on November 29, 2011 at Acosta –Rua Center for Caring after a long illness. Mr. Walker was born on February 26, 1927 to the late O. K. “Kenneth” Walker and Rosa Stone Walker. He was a life long resident of Baker County and a graduate of Taylor High School. He worked at Dinkins Ford dealership for 10 years, Griffin Chevrolet and Sands Motor Company for 20 years and then retired from the Department of Corrections after 17 years.

Mr. Walker was a member of Faith Baptist Church for 58 years. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, springtime gardening and vacations in the Smokey Mountains with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Myrtice Taylor Walker; brother Billy (Nettie) Walker of Jacksonville; children Bobby (Molly) Johns of Macclenny, Kenneth (Ruth) Walker of Charlotte, Mary Lillian (Thomas) Mobley of Glen St. Mary and “Benny” William (Robin) Walker Jr. of Lexington, KY; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held on Friday, December 2 at his church with pastors Torran Dismuke and Donnie Williams officiating. Interment followed in Taylor Cemetery.  V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services was in charge of the arrangements.
