George O’Brien ‘Brian’ Hodges

George O’Brien “Brian” Hodges, 50, of Macclenny died Saturday, February 18, 2012. Mr. Hodges was a lifelong resident of Baker County and small engine mechanic who enjoyed fishing, camping, playing music and singing. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his mother Carolyn (Ronald) Plymel of Macclenny; brothers Eddie Hodges Jr. and Denny Hodges of Macclenny, Brad (Alicia) Hodges and Ray (Felicia) Hodges of Glen St. Mary, Steve (Elaine) Hodges and Lee Hodges of Sanderson, Jessie (Wendy) Hodges of Waycross, GA; and sister Lynn Hodges of Macclenny. He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Lee Hodges; brothers Edward Alvin Hodges Sr. and Russell Oliver Hodges; and sister Shirley Higginbotham.

Madge Miller, 77, of Glen St. Mary

Madge Sanders Miller, 77, of Glen St. Mary died February 22, 2012 at the Morris Center in Jacksonville. She was born in Elmodel, Georgia to the late A.A. and Elsie Sanders on February 16, 1935. Madge was a resident of North Florida since 1993 and attended the Christian Fellowship Temple. She retired from Sears in 1990 where she was employed as a bookkeeper for 20 years. She also worked at Sprint for 10 years as a telephone operator.

Mrs. Miller enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, bowling, and was active in Little League activities when her children were young. She was predeceased by her daughter Vickie Miller Onkst, stepmother Eloise C. Sanders and brother Anthony Sanders.

Terrance Newman 72, of Davenport

Terrance (Terry) R. Newman, 72, of Davenport, FL died Monday, January 9, 2012 surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness. Formerly of Baker County, he was the son of the late Edwin and Emma Klyswan Newman. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired from Disney World.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years Frances Godwin Newman; sons Micheal (Holly) Newman of Merritt Island and Johnny (Theresa) Newman of Winter Park; brother Ronnie Newman of Ohio; sisters-in-law Lucille (Tim) Fox and Joann (Pete) Parish of Macclenny, Winifred Fisher of Glen St. Mary and Mary (Luther) Pringle of Bryceville; brother-in-laws Billy (Susan) Godwin of Sanderson and William (Cleo) Godwin of Glen St. Mary; four grandchildren and numerous other family and friends also survive.

Opal Poe, 86, of Jacksonville

Opal C. Poe, 86, of Jacksonville died Sunday, February 19, 2012. She was born December 20, 1925 in Raceland, KY to Gordon and Mary Ball Dillow. She was a charter member of Jacksonville Heights Baptist Church. Her love for her grandchildren meant more to her than her love for her bowling, and she loved her bowling. Opal is preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Poe, son Billy Poe and daughter Connie Leissner.

Survivors include children Walter W. Poe, Faye (Hank) Burnsed of Glen St. Mary and Richard Poe; son-in-law Rick Leissner; sister Ruby Lowe; grandchildren Jenifer, Jessica, Walter, William, Damien, Dan and Tina; eight great-grandchildren.
