Joyce Stewart, 78, a lifelong resident

Joyce Stewart, 78, of Macclenny died on Friday, November 16, 2012. A lifelong resident of Baker County, Ms. Stewart enjoyed cooking and gardening, spending time at the beach and with her grandchildren and family and friends. She is survived by her husband James “Buckshot” Stewart of Macclenny; sons Ronald (Jackie) Stewart of Sanderson and Edward (Linda) Stewart of Jacksonville; daughters Teresa Stewart (Keith Lancaster)and Karen (Jack) Walls, both of Jacksonville, and Cindy (Chuck) Tharp of Jacksonville Beach; brothers Johnny (Gracie) Raulerson of Macclenny and Tommy Raulerson of Texas; sisters Alice Parker of Jacksonville and Betty Jean Boyd of Macclenny; nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters Jewel Dubley, Roxie Nipper, Lily Davis and Leona Nipper; and brother Lester Raulerson. 

The funeral service was held at 2 pm Tuesday, November 20,  at the Glen Friendship Tabernacle with Pastor Albert Starling officiating. Interment followed at Macedonia Cemetery. Forbes Funeral Home of Macclenny was in charge of arrangements.

Nathan L. Baker of Glen dies at 80

Nathan L. Baker, 80, of Glen St. Mary died Monday, November 5, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville following an extended illness. He was born in Chipley, FL and lived in Tampa and Baldwin before moving to Glen St. Mary in 1967. He was the son of the late George H. and Rosie Belle Womble Baker and the widower of Pansy B. Baker. He was a refrigeration mechanic with Fruit Growers Express in Baldwin for over 27 years until retirement.

Mr. Baker was a member of the First Baptist Church of Macclenny, an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and a former volunteer with the Baldwin Fire Department who enjoyed wood working, flying model airplanes and visiting craft shows.

Richard Hartley, father of Glen man

Richard Everett Hartley Sr., 80, died on Thursday, November 8, 2012. He was born June 30, 1932 in Jacksonville to the late Everett and Juanita Woodcock Hartley. Richard was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force with 20 years of service as a master crew chief on B-52 bombers. He was an avid Gator fan, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by all.

Mr. Hartley is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phlou; son Richard Hartley Jr. (Pam) of Glen St. Mary; grandchildren Melissa Elliott (Joshua) and Stacey Hartley; great-grandchild Harlow Elliott; a host of other relatives and friends.

Rose Monte, 68, rites at N. Prong

Rose Pate Thompson-Monte, 68, of Jacksonville died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center South  following an extended illness. She was born in Asheville, NC and resided in Jacksonville the past 40 years. She was preceded in death by parents Jack and Cora Lee Pate Edwards Creason. She was a homemaker and a very independent lady.

Mrs. Monte is survived by husband John S. Monte Jr. of Jacksonville; daughters Mary (Donald) Noles and Sharon Canady, both of Jacksonville, Sherry Lynn (Victor) Fitchie of Moniac, GA, Robin Mann of Jacksonville, Shanna (Alan) Secrest of Taylor; son Jerry Banks of Bakersville, NC; step-son, John S. Monte III of Glen St. Mary; sisters Della Tucker of Hendersonville, NC, Norma Jean Raines of Swananowa, NC, Wilma Lee Eady of Belton, SC and Lucille Canaday of Callahan; brothers Ronnie Fox of Walnut, NC and Michael Edwards of Henderson, NC; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A graveside funeral service was held at 3 pm on November 11 at North Prong Cemetery with Rev. Micky Mixon of Jacksonville officiating. Guerry Funeral Home of Macclenny was in charge of arrangements.
