David Jones, WWII Pacific veteran

David Harold Jones Sr., 92, of Glen St. Mary died on April 5, 2013 at Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital. He was born in Dania, Florida on October 25, 1920 to the late Benjamin Dower Jones and Roselind Lauder Clark Jones. David was a resident of Macclenny  since 1952 when he married his lovely wife Erin.

He joined the US Army prior to World War II and served the entire war in the South Pacific. He retired from the Army after 20 years and then was employed as a salesman at the Glen St. Mary Nursery for 20 years. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Macclenny. David had a passion for growing plants, gardening and landscaping. He was especially talented in growing orchids.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his loving wife Erin Poythress Jones; brother Thomas Jones; sisters Inez Hinson, Gertrude Jones and Ruth Farrar.

Vera Mae Crews dies on March 29

Vera Mae Crews, 67, of Glen St. Mary died on Friday, March 29, 2013. Mrs. Crews enjoyed singing, being with her grandchildren and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by husband Cecil Crews; sons Elton (Katie) Rhoden of Sanderson and Ed (Lisa) Johns of Macclenny; sisters Nadine Dobson, Sylvia (Robert) Perdue, Margaret (Wendell) Kirkland, Virginia (Bobby) Thrift, all of Macclenny and Robin (Donnie) Mann of Sanderson; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral service for Mrs. Crews was held 11 am Wednesday, April 3 at the Glen Friendship Tabernacle in Glen St. Mary with Pastor Albert Starling officiating. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Macclenny. Forbes Funeral Home of Macclenny was in charge of arrangements.

Karen Bracewell a native of Moniac

Karen Bracewell, 77, of Jacksonville died on Sunday, March 31 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born in Moniac, Georgia and resided in Jacksonville for over 60 years. She was the daughter of the late Canadir and Pearl Burnsed Canaday, and was a machine operator with Kraft Paper Company in Yulee for many years. She was a member of the Moniac Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband H. C. Bracewell of Jacksonville; daughters Diane (Don) Wallace of Jacksonville and Sandra (Timmy) Canaday of Moniac; sons Michael (Cathy) Bracewell of Baldwin and Keith (Janet) Bracewell of Jacksonville; sister Irene Taylor of Moniac; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Marvin Norman, 71, NEFSH retiree

Marvin Norman,  71, a native and lifelong resident of Macclenny, died on April 1, 2013 at his residence. He was born on August 8, 1941 to the late William Norman and Lillie Mae Raulerson Norman. Marvin retired from Northeast Florida State Hospital in June of 1987 after 25 dedicated years of employment as a plumber. He attended Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed watching wrestling. He was a wonderful father who was family-oriented and always smiling. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother W.H. Norman.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Dianne Norman of Macclenny; children Glenda Thomas, Tony (Susie) Norman and Angela Simpson, all of Macclenny; brothers James and Leonard Norman   of Macclenny; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
