Jessie Lee, 88, of Jacksonville

Jessie Mae Dortch Lee, 88, of Jacksonville died Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital in Macclenny. She was born in Lake City to the late John and Elsie Tyre Dortch. She was a member of the Manntown Congregational Holiness Church of Glen St. Mary. During her 65-year married life she was a faithful partner to her husband in his ministry. She served the Lord from an early childhood and prior to her marriage, she accompanied her minister-father to the various churches he served. Attending church functions and services was her life.

Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her husband Willard Lee, her parents, brothers Leonard, Bill, Johnny, and Jerry Dortch and sister Jewell Dortch Thompson.

Eddie Canady Jr., 85, of Macclenny

Eddie B. “E.B.” Canady Jr., 85, of Macclenny died Wednesday, January 18, 2012. He was a native of Jacksonville and  retired to Macclenny in 1997. He worked for the US Postal Service and was a deputy under three different sheriff’s of Duval County. He retired as a real estate investor and was owner of Ace-Dixie Amusement Company in Jacksonville.

Mr. Canady was a Baptist, a member of the Baker County Historical Society, a Navy Veteran of WWII and a life member of VFW Post #1689, Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his parents Eddie B. and Lila Bennett Canady Sr. and sisters Edith Maddox and Ethel Helsabeck.

Ethel Thompson, 93, of Macclenny

Ethel May Thompson, 93, of Macclenny died January 10, 2012. She was born in Carline County, Virginia to the late James Franklin Howard and Sadie Scott Thompson Howard on September 23, 1918. Ethel was a very thoughtful person that loved her family, her church and her friends. She was predeceased by husband Stanley Ray Thompson and siblings Fred Howard, Lloyd Howard, Aubrey Pierman Howard, Estelle Howard Little, Pearl Howard Lawson and Grace Howard Denton.

Survivors include daughter Sharon (James) “Bud” Staggs of Macclenny; grandchildren: Cheryl (Patrick) Harris, Richard Staggs, Jeff Staggs, Chris (Suzie) Staggs and Kristin Staggs; great-grandchildren Heather (Matthew Crews) and Jonathan Harris, Lance Rayburn, Peyton, Wesley and Briar Staggs.

Annie Stephens, 95, of Macclenny

Annie Cornelia Cranford Stephens, 95, of Macclenny died January 13, 2012 at Macclenny Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Cabarrus County, NC to the late Ollie and Bertha Hethcock Cranford on November 3, 1916. She was a long time resident of Tampa and a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church. She was predeceased by her husband Henry H. Stephens and stepson John Stephens.

Survivors include stepson H. W. (Janie) Stephens of Mississippi; daughter-in-law Linda Stephens of Glen St. Mary; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
