William Ferguson, 42, of Sanderson

William Bryan Ferguson,  42, of Sanderson died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Jacksonville and resided in Sanderson for 12 years. Mr. Ferguson was a fence installer with Big J Fence Company in Jacks0nville and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He is survived by parents Robert and Rita Hayes of Jacksonville; wife Kelly Ferguson of Glen St.

Mary;sons James Wyatt Ferguson of Glen, William B. Ferguson II of Jacksonville and Tyler Ferguson of Baker County; his father William Ferguson of Callahan; sister Michelle Stevenson of Jacksonville; step-sister Jodi Hayes of Panama City, Fla.; Nephews, Dalton, Dusten, Jamie and Shawn; niece Christen (Jacob) Eubanks; one great-niece.

Thomas Barton, ex-DOC warden

Thomas Lee Barton Sr., 75, of Glen St. Mary died June 14, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Macclenny to the late Earn Barton and Hattie Lee Davis Barton on January 13, 1937. Thomas was a lifelong resident of Baker County and a member of First Baptist Church of Glen St. Mary. He honorably served in the U.S. Army 11th Airborne Division and retired in 1992 after 33 years of service as a warden with the Florida Department of Corrections. Thomas loved deer hunting with dogs and enjoyed raising his hunting dogs. He also enjoyed competitive pistol shooting and was an avid sports fanatic who followed the Yankees, Gators, Jags, Dolphins and NASCAR’s Richard Petty.

Barney Crews Sr. funeral June 9th

Barney Lewis Crews Sr., 51, of Macclenny died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at his home. He was born in Jacksonville, raised in Baker County and attended Baker County High School. Mr. Crews served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the Ironworkers Local Union #597 in Jacksonville. He was an avid Florida Gator fan and loved living at his home on the St. Mary’s River that he called the “Crews’ Fish Camp.” Mr. Crews was preceded in death by brother Jeffrey V. Crews in 1978.

Survivors include children Barney L. “B.J.” Crews Jr. (Krystal Key) of Virginia Beach, VA, Brion Lee Crews and Natalie Marie Crews, both of Norfolk, VA; parents Virgil and Pat Crews; sister Patti L. Mobley (Rick Osburn); sister-in-law Tina (Mike) Griffis, all of Glen St. Mary; granddaughter Angelina M. Crews and  former wife and mother of his children Kathleen “Scottie” Crews, both of Norfolk, VA.

Kelly Hicks, 53, of Bryceville dies

Kelly David Hicks Jr., 53, of Bryceville died Tuesday, June 12, 2012. He was born in Folkston, GA and lived in Nassau County most of his life. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his mother Geraldine Hicks; father Kelly David Hicks Sr.; daughter Melinda; sister Kellene Sauls (Rolen); brother Kyle Hicks (Cheryl);  nieces Marsha, Wendy, Mona, Natalie, Karisa and Kelsey; nephew Nelson; 12 great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral service for Mr. Hicks will be at 11 am Friday, June 15, 2012 in the chapel of Giddens-Reed Funeral Home in Baldwin with Rev. Grady Albritton officiating. Interment will  follow at Norton Cemetery in Nassau County. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
