Matthew Looby, 23, of Macclenny

Matthew Joseph Looby, 23, of Macclenny died the morning of Saturday, May 12, 2012. Born in Jacksonville on July 17, 1988, Matthew was an avid Florida Gator fan and loved both football and basketball, all types of music, his computer, eating out and trying new places. He enjoyed spending time with his younger brothers and sisters, who adored him.

Carolyn Martin, 67, of Macclenny

Carolyn Elizabeth Martin, 67, of Macclenny died on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville. She was born in Statesville, North Carolina to the late Everette and Mary Blackwelder Shaw and lived in Macclenny since 1988, having moved here from Jacksonville. Mrs. Martin was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed sewing, doing crafts and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her husband of 35 years, Robert J. Martin of Macclenny; sons Wendell E. Martin of Glen St. Mary, William (Tara) Martin of Sanderson and Robert B. (Jessica) Martin of Jacksonville; grandchildren Joshua E., Sarah Beth, Christopher, Dustin and Kierra;  great-grandchildren, Jacob Eugene and Parker Sydney.

Mildred Rhoden, 86, of Baxter dies

Mildred Rhoden, 86, of Baxter died Friday, May 11, 2012 at her residence following a long illness. She was born in Baker County and resided in the Baxter community all her life. She was the daughter of the late Odus and Ida Raulerson Gainey and the wife of the late Orbey Rhoden. She was a homemaker, a member of Cuyler Baptist Church and enjoyed string music, gospel music and going to church.

Mrs. Rhoden is survived by daughters Linda (J.N.) Canaday of Baxter, Nancy Mayo of Cuyler and Mary (J.C.) Newmans of Folkston, GA; sons Orbey Ray Rhoden of Folkston, Otis Dav­­id Rhoden of Baxter and Roy A. (Sandy) Rhoden of Cuyler; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren.

D.C. Rivers, 79, retiree from JSO

Dolphus C. “D.C.” Rivers Sr., 79, of Lake City died on Monday, May 14, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Lake City. He was born in Lake City and was a son to the late James and Erma Roberts Rivers. Mr. Rivers was a resident of Lake City for the past 12 years, having previously lived in Jacksonville. He was a graduate of Columbia High School, a veteran of the United States Army serving during Korea, a retired officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office after 25 years and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Mr. Rivers was a Baptist and enjoyed fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife  Gladys M. Rivers in 2002.
