‘Artie’ Simmons, 57, of Sanderson

Arthur H. “Artie” Simmons, 57, of Glen St. Mary died on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at his home. Mr. Simmons was born and raised in Hudson, New York and lived in Glen St. Mary for more than 30 years. He worked at one time at Northeast Florida State Hospital and was a carpenter by trade. Mr. Simmons also was a volunteer fireman with Station 70 in Sanderson and with the Washington Hose when he lived in Hudson. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Dallas Cowboys and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his father Raymond I. Simmons Sr.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Yvonne Simmons of Glen St. Mary; mother Goldie Simmons of Hudson; daughters Sonya (Lee) Hauge and Tami (Adam Waldrop) Simmons of Macclenny; brothers Raymond (Jean) Simmons and William Simmons of Hudson; sisters Carol Deangelo and Michiko (Jorge) Bu of Hudson; grandchildren Newdearia (Tyler Fogarty) Hauge, Christina Hauge, Lee Hauge Jr., Amanda Nichols and Adam Waldrop Jr., all of Macclenny; and great-grandson Brody Fogarty of Macclenny.

Talmage Sapp dies in Wyoming

Talmadge Ray Sapp, 74, of Rawlins, Wyoming died on January 4, 2013 at the Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne. He was born Aug. 15, 1938, in Sanderson to parents Nancy (Crews) and Woodrow W. Sapp. He was  a carpenter and enjoyed fishing, hunting, writing short stories and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Sara M. Sapp; children Cheryl Verplancke, Steve (Kathryn) Sapp and Carrie (Eric) Beck;  grandchildren Jared and Alec Verplancke, Samuel and Keenan Sapp, and Ryan and Savannah Beck; sister Dorris Burnsed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary Sapp.

A funeral was held on Wednesday January 9 at 4 pm in the chapel at Carbon County Funeral Home in Rawlins, WY.

Charney Rhoden, was retired farmer

Charney Ellis Rhoden Sr.,  84, of Sanderson died on Tuesday, January 1, 2013. Mr. Rhoden was a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of Baker County. He loved working, farming and gardening, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Rhoden was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Georgia Faye.

He is survived by sons Charney (Joy) Rhoden Jr, Eddie (Vanessa) Rhoden, Michael Rhoden and Jamie (Brenda) Rhoden, all of Sanderson; daughter Pam Rhoden of Sanderson; brother Gary (Roberta) Kirkland of Elkton, FL; sisters Sherry (Jim) Rubel of Jacksonville and Kay (Donald) Combs of Macclenny; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

The funeral service for Mr. Rhoden was held 2 pm on Saturday, January 5 at the Christian Fellowship Temple in Macclenny, FL with Pastor David Thomas officiating. Interment followed at South Prong Cemetery, Sanderson. Forbes Funeral Home of Macclenny was in charge of arrangements.

Gloria Padgett, 70, dies in Texas

Gloria Morine Padgett, 70, of Kingwood, Texas died on December 30, 2012 at Kindred Hospital in Houston with family by her side. She was born in Jacksonville on January 11, 1942 to the late James M. Coleman and Inez Boyd Coleman. Gloria was raised in Baker County and graduated from Paxon High School in 1961. She was a resident of Kingwood since 2002 after moving from Columbus, OH. She enjoyed being a caretaker to all her family and friends and being an active member of the Girl Scouts as a leader and trainer. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert Coleman.

Mrs. Padgett is survived by her loving children Elizabeth J. Buckner of Casselberry, FL, Robert A. Padgett of Houston, TX, Keith (Cathy) Padgett of Holly Springs, NC and Debra L. Padgett of Houston; sisters Madge Newman of Houston and Sharon Coleman of Columbus, OH; grandchildren Kathrine Buckner, Krystal Buckner, Jason Padgett, Brandon Padgett and Samantha Padgett.

A graveside service held on Friday, January 4 at 3 pm at South Prong Cemetery with Elder Jimmie Thornton officiating. V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
