Sally Manning of Baldwin dies

Sally Ambrose Manning, 81, of Baldwin died on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born on December 20, 1930 in Cross City, Florida. She is the daughter of the late Jacob Guy Ambrose and the former Bertha Lee Howell.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Brad Manning;  son Vance Prestwood Sr.;  daughters, Suzanne (Eddie) Bibb, Melody (Tim) Rigdon and Stephanie (Lee) Pittman; grandsons Brad Chessman, Vance (Alysia) Prestwood, Jr., Brent (Kristen) Chessman, Ben Pittman and Sam Pittman; granddaughters Betsy Chessman, Windy (Kane) Cahill, Sarah Rigdon, Rebecca (Jonathan) Reavis, Rachel Pittman and Amy Pittman; sister Lily Harrington; nine great-grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her son David Prestwood.

The funeral service was held at 11am on Wednesday, October 24,  at the First Baptist Church of Baldwin with Rev. Chris Drum officiating. Interment followed at  Brandy Branch Cemetery, Bryceville.

Ernest DeHart, 77, of Glen St. Mary dies

Ernest Gene DeHart, 77, of Glen St. Mary died on Thursday, October 11, 2012. Mr. Dehart was a United States Navy veteran and a retired industrial mechanic. He was a member of the VFW and Moose Lodge 2412 in Macclenny. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, solving crossword puzzles, feeding wild birds, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife Chessie DeHart of Glen St. Mary; son Michael (Lorraine) DeHart of Glen St. Mary; daughters Deborah (Mike) Brost of Atlantic Beach, Brandi (James) Wood of Mission, TX and Candi DeHart of Jacksonville; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughters Tonya Blaine and Kathy Heathco.

The funeral service was held  at 2 pm Sunday, October 14 at  Taylor Church with Pastor Jim Cox officiating. Burial followed at Taylor Cemetery. Forbes Funeral Home in Macclenny was in charge of arrangements.

Queen Davis loved to cook and decorate

Queen Esther Davis, 71, a Macclenny native and resident of Kansas City, MO, died September 27, 2012. She was the daughter of the late John H. Johnson and Alice Wynn, and was preceded in death by husband Willie Davis, daughter Alicia A. Davis and grandson Earl Ramsey Jr.

Mrs. Davis was educated in Baker County and later earned an associate degree in medical management. She moved to Kansas City in 1969 and attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Queen was a family-oriented woman who firmly believed in the strength of family and friends. She enjoyed rehabilitating homes, interior decorating and was a songwriter who loved to cook.

She is survived by daughters Gwendolyn Henderson and Phyllis (J.L.) Davis-Gay; grandchildren Tiffany, Queen, Jameel, Corey and Willica; great-granddaughters Jamesha and Trinity; brothers and sisters William Henry (Gayron), Billy, Betty, Salome (Charlie), Nazarene (Mike), Rufus (Alma), Emmory (Samuel), Linda (Gabriel), Claudia; a host of other relatives and dear friends.

The funeral service for Mrs. Davis was held on Saturday, October 6 at 4 pm at Duane Harvey Funeral Home in Kansas City with Rev. Nathaniel Davis officiating.

Robert Brown Jr., 51, of Jacksonville

William Robert Brown Jr., 51, died on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. He was born March 22, 1961 and was a native and life-long resident of Jacksonville. The son of the late William and Mary Wade Brown, Robert was a master electrician and worked with Allstate Electric Company and for Munson and Bryan Electric Company, Inc. at the time of his death. Robert was a hard worker and was well liked by all who knew him. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and will be dearly missed by all.

Survivors include his wife of 30-plus years, Barbara; son Robert Adam Brown; daughter Regina Brown; brother Blaney Brown of Macclenny; sisters Carol Brown, Shirley Young, Trudie Brown, all of Macclenny, and Lanie Thornton (Nathan) of Jacksonville; mother-in-law Joann Godwin of Jacksonville; brother-in-law Robert Godwin; three grandchildren; numerous  aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A graveside service for Mr. Brown was held on Wednesday, October 24 at 11 am at Manning Cemetery in Jacksonville with Rev. Freddie Griffis officiating. The family received friends at the graveside starting at 10 am. Cedar Bay Funeral Home of Jacksonville was in charge of arrangements
