Clyde Johns dies at 101 years old

Clyde Whitter Johns, 101, of Sanderson, FL died January 6, 2013 at Macclenny Nursing and Rehab Center.

Mr. Johns was born in Charlton County, GA on July 18, 1911 to the late Charney H. Johns and Mattie Dowling Johns. He has been a lifelong resident of Baker County, where he was a member of the Baker County Cattlemen Association. Mr. Johns enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and tending to his cattle and hogs. He was a lifelong farmer and loved being outdoors.

Mr. Johns was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, R.O. Coleman Johns and his son, Malcolm Kelly Johns.

Rick Gonzales, 42, of Maxville

Ricardo “Rick” Benjamin Gonzales Jr., 42, of Maxville died on December 30, 2012 at Shands Jacksonville. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 12, 1970 to Ricardo Benjamin Gonzales Sr. and Marie T. Latham Crispell. Rick was a resident of the Maxville area for the past 21 years. He was an avid Gator fan and  enjoyed spending time at the jetties. Most of all he was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his family.

Other than his parents, Mr. Gonzales is survived by his loving wife of nine years, Kristina Lea Gonzales of Jacksonville; children Antonio and Nevaeh Gonzales of Jacksonville; brothers Jeff, Jim, Joe and John Gonzales, John Crispell and Raymond Crispell; sister Tiffany Stauderman; uncle Harry Latham of Jacksonville.

A memorial service was held on Monday, January 7 at 2 pm at Westside Baptist Church in Jacksonville with Pastor Ray Mayfield officiating. V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services of Macclenny was in charge of arrangements.

Dana McKenzie of Sanderson dies

Dana Michelle McKenzie of Sanderson died on January 3, 2013.

She is survived by her twins Mikell and Malinda McKenzie and grandson Terrell Nesmith, all of Sanderson; brothers Jerry McKenzie Jr. (Elaine) of Margaretta, Ulysses Ray (Ruby) and Anthony (Faye) McKenzie of St. Augustine; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends, among them her best friend Sandra Daniels.

The visitation will be held Friday, January 11 , from 5-7 pm at the New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ, and one hour before the funeral service at noon on January 12 at the church.

The funeral cortege will assemble at Jerry McKenzie’s  home, 9868 CR 139 in Maragaretta. Interment will be in Mt. Herman Cemetery in Macclenny. Harry Brown Funeral Directors and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.

Vern Hollingsworth, loved driving a truck

Daryl “Vern” Robert Hollingsworth, 58, of Macclenny died peacefully on January 4, 2013 at the Acosta-Rua Center for Caring with family by his side. He was born in Gadsden, Alabama on June 1, 1954 to the late Harold Franklin Hollingsworth and Verna Faye Phillips Hollingsworth. Daryl was raised in Jacksonville and was a resident of Macclenny since 1986. He was a member at Glen Church.

Mr. Hollingsworth was employed with the Department of Transportation for 19 years and  spent the past 12 years employed by Raven Transport. His passion was driving a truck and he did that for over 40 years. He was an avid fisherman,  a gardener and he loved attending church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, being goofy and giving to and helping others. Daryl loved life, loved having fun, and he loved his Toyota Tundra truck.
