Alvin Duren, 82, of Orange Park

Alvin Edward Duren, 82, of Orange Park died on Wednesday, November 21, 2012. He was born in Okahumpka, FL and lived in Orange Park for 51 years. He was the son of the late Willie W. and Olla Rebecca Duren, and was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Mr. Duren worked at Merita Bread Company for 37 years and retired in 1985. He was preceded in death by son Lavon Duren. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ellen Duren; children Barney and Vickie Duren and Tracey McGlamery; nine grandchildren; brother Charles Duren; sister Betty Williams.

Deborah Arnold of Glen St. Mary

Deborah J. Arnold, 54, of Glen St. Mary died on Sunday, November 25, 2012. Ms. Arnold enjoyed fishing, puzzle books, her dogs, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her mother Lovenna Neal of Milton, FL; son Sean (Karina) Neal of Milton and daughter Tessa (Jerry) Gardner of Jacksonville; brother Dale (Debbie) Metz of Baltimore, MD; sisters Gale (Clyde) Bernard of Friendsville, MD, Marla Johnson of Newport News, VA, Misty (Harry) Phillips of Milton and Regina (Bobby) Iman of Baltimore; three grandchildren.

Ms. Arnold’s family will hold a memorial service at a later date. Forbes Funeral Home of Macclenny was in charge of arrangements.

‘Bill’ Bevis Jr., 81, a native of Olustee

William Gary (Bill) Bevis Jr., 81, of Rome, GA died on November 13, 2012 with his family at his side. He was born on July 21, 1931 in Olustee to the late William Gary Sr. and Gertrude Bevis. Mr. Bevis graduated from the University of Florida in 1954 and served in the Marine Corps. He retired from Inland Rome’s forestry division.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping and passing on his love of carpentry and model train sets to his children and grandchildren (Bill built a complete model train set in his shop). He loved his Florida Gators. Mr. Bevis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Ann; son Bev (Susan) Bevis; daughters Kim (Renee) Waid, Judy (Jay) Denney; sister Jacquelyn Davis; brothers Lamar (Fern) and Murwin (Liz) Bevis; five grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mr. Bevis was held on Friday, November 16 at West Rome Baptist Church where he was a member. Interment was in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the American Legion conducting military graveside rites.

Alice Gray, 77, dies November 14

Alice Ceretha Gray, 77, of Macclenny died on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 with family and friends by her side. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, working outdoors, taking trips to Biloxi to gamble, and most of all spending time with her family. After working many years as a correctional officer, she retired to travel and take care of her husband Frank.

Ms. Gray is survived by her son Kenneth Clyde Watts of Gainesville; brothers Fred (Sharon) Wood of Wetumpka, AL and Bobby (Barbara) Wood of Gainesville; son-in-law Bryan Mobley of Macclenny; grandchildren Joel (Beverly) Lauramore of Macclenny, Ceretha Alexander of Atlanta and Denise (Don) Weddle of Sanderson;  and great-grandchildren Dalton, Chase and Jordan. She was preceded in death by her husband Franklin Gray, father Joel Marvin Wood, brother JM Wood, and only daughter Deborah Mobley of Macclenny. Alice was many things: a wife, sister and mother, but most importantly she was Nana to everyone she met, to her own grandchildren and to Ricky, Vance, Dena, Rocky, Landon and many others.

The funeral service was held on Saturday, November 17, in the Forbes Funeral Home  chapel in Macclenny. Interment followed at Macedonia Cemetery, Macclenny.
