Donald W. Fraze dies December 5

Donald W. Fraze, 77, a 22-year resident of Baker County, died on December 5, 2012 at Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital. He was born in Topeka, KS on April 9, 1935 to the late Donald L. Fraze and Ethel S. Smith. Donald served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1952-1955 as a field radio operator and in the United States Air Force from 1955 -1963 as an electronics technician. He earned an associate of science degree in accounting from Jones Business College  in 1976, and for the past eight years he was employed by the Baker County Sheriff’s Office as a crossing guard.

Mr. Fraze was a pastor and minister for 26 years. He enjoyed bowling, playing computer games and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father Ralph S. Smith and brother John D. Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lucille K. Fraze; brother Richard (Earlene) Fraze Sr.; sister-in-law Joyce; children Lori M. (Mark) Wilkinson, Robin L. (Tommy) O’Neal, Chris L. (Sheri) Fraze and Wayne D. (Meike) Fraze; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren (three on the way); nieces and nephews and a great-grandchild on the way.

The funeral service for Mr. Fraze was held on Tuesday, December 11 at 11:30 am at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services with Pastor Shelia Houston officiating. Interment followed at Jacksonville National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for funeral expenses.

Shirley Fagin, 75, of Macclenny dies

Shirley Mae Fagin, 75, of Macclenny died on December 5, 2012. She was a lifelong resident of Baker County.

Mrs. Fagin is survived by daughters Delbra Scott (Clemon) and Sharon Fagin; grandchildren Rose Walton (Kelvin), Jermaine Fagin, Clayton Scott and Clinton Scott (Yolanda); nine great-grandchildren; sisters Dr. Wilma Bright (Paul) and Mildred Washington; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Mrs.  Fagin was held on Saturday, December 8 at 12:30 pm at St. James Baptist Church in Macclenny. Burial was in Mt. Herman Cemetery in Macclenny. Harry Brown Funeral Directors of Macclenny was in charge of arrangements.

Louis Edwards, 97, of Glen dies

Louise P. Edwards, 97, died on December 6, 2012. She was a native of Starke and moved back to Florida from her home in Sinclairville, NY in 1997. She resided in Glen St. Mary and  attended First Baptist Church of Glen St. Mary. She spent the past seven years in Frank Wells Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Eustace Parnele and George Edwards.

Alton Crews, 67, funeral Thursday

Alton J. Crews, 67, of Glen St. Mary died on Monday, December 10, 2012 at his home after a long illness. He was born in Jacksonville on March 19, 1945 and was a lifelong resident of Baker County. He was the son of Andrew Jackson Crews Sr. and was preceded in death by his father and brother Andrew Jackson Crews Jr. He was a carpenter and enjoyed wood working in his retirement. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Crews is survived by sons Allen (Kim) Crews of Sanderson and Alvin H. Crews of Lake City; his mother Mabel Irene Crews of Glen St. Mary; granddaughters Brandi (Matt) Funk and Andrea (Josh) Newmans; great-grandson Maddox Jagger Funk: great-granddaughter Lyleigh Newmans (expected in January);  sisters Margaret Watson of Baldwin, Jeanette (Alvin) Best of Fernandina Beach and DeLois (Tommy) Crews of St. George, Ga.; brothers Bobby Gene (Betty) Crews, Woody (Charolette) Crews, Harold Crews, Archie Crews and Paul Crews, all of Glen St. Mary.

The funeral service for Mr. Crews will be conducted at 3 pm  Thursday, December 13 in the chapel of Guerry Funeral Home in Macclenny with Rev. Bobby Gene Crews officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Final disposition will be by cremation.
