Old DRI deal with DuPont may have persuaded Oldcastle to withdraw from mediation

County Manager C.J. Thompson received word from the county attorney last week that Oldcastle Southern Group, the company behind a sand mining plan turned away by county commissioners last July, has withdrawn from mediation proceedings that began last fall.

But the company, which hasn’t responded to a request for comment, may have abandoned altogether its effort to overturn the county’s denial, said county commissioner Adam Giddens Tuesday. He said county officials have known for some time about a potential legal hurdle for Oldcastle should the company seek to sue the county to get its project off the ground.
