Updated: Police find human remains near site of missing Baker County woman’s abandoned vehicle near Lake City

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office reported Friday that K-9 search teams found human remains near the location of a missing Baker County woman's abandoned vehicle.

The discovery was made a little before noon on July 3. The identity of the body hasn't been confirmed but the sheriff's office public information officer Murray Smith said authorities suspect the remains to be that of Sharon Jackson, who was reported missing a week earlier.

Mr. Smith said Monday an autopsy of the remains has been scheduled and should take place at the coroner's office in Jacksonville within the next few days.

ActionNewsJax.com reported last week other evidence was found in the area and that Sharon "Sheree" Jackson had contact with a FHP trooper in the early morning hours of June 21, a day before the abandoned SUV registered to her was found on Highway 47. She said she had run out of gas, but that help was coming and she appeared to be alright, the station said.
