Mural removal petition sparks protest

That was the mantra behind a rally held July 18 at the Baker County Courthouse that showed support of the mural, which depicts three hooded Klansmen on horseback among 42 other vignettes, that hangs inside. The mural, which was commissioned in 2001 and painted by the late county resident Eugene Barber, has become the center of a recent controversy after Jacksonville attorney John Phillips launched an online petition on July 14 to have it removed. Prison guard arrested for beating up inmate



Local authorities assisted an investigative team from the Florida Department of Corrections in the arrest of a Macclenny resident and former prison officer on multiple charges stemming from the alleged beating of an inmate on June 9. Read More »
