A Tallahaasse man was charged the evening of November 10 with drunk driving on Interstate 10 in west Baker County.
Trooper K.M. Frost of the Florida Highway Patrol responded to several 9-1-1 motorist complaints that the 2014 Dodge Charger driven by Ramesh Katam, 51, was swerving in and out of eastbound travel lanes.
The trooper caught up with the vehicle and noted that Mr. Katam had the odor of alcohol about him and an open beer in the car. He failed field sobriety testing and his blood alcohol level at county jail measured .141.
Florida considers .08 intoxicated.
In another incident, the highway patrol said SR 121 near the state line north of Macclenny was blocked for one and one half hours the afternoon of November 17 when the rear wheels of a semi-truck became stuck in a ditch on the east side of the roadway.
Trooper J. Beagle said the truck driven by Patricia Thompson, 53, of Goose Creek, S.C. was pulling out southbound from the parking lot of the State Line Grocery at about 2 p.m. That’s also when a strong storm was moving through the county.
The driver was not charged.
