2012 drug, alcohol deaths reach 17, two drugs most prevalent

Two prescription drugs — alprazolam and oxycodone — were linked to most of the drug and alcohol-related deaths in Baker County during 2012, the latest year for which figures are available, and many of the deaths were from accidental overdoses, figures from the District 8 Medical Examiner’s Office in Gainesville indicate.

Board vows to focus on more county jobs

The county commission’s first public forum of 2014 on January 7, which preceded the first regular commission meeting of the new year, focused on the need to attract new businesses to create more jobs in Baker County so that people don’t have to commute to Jacksonville to work.
