The Baker County Press won 11 awards in the Florida Press Association’s 2012 Better Weekly Newspaper Contest, including its first-ever award for general excellence, on July 18 in Orlando.
The newspaper competed in the under 7000 circulation division of the contest and took home eight first place honors in addition to second place and third place awards.
The grass roots campaign that led to the rejection of Oldcastle Southern Group’s plans to develop a sand mining operation southeast of Macclenny has been described as a “David and Goliath” type battle.

A third suspect in the local case, Miquelle “Tiki” Jones, 37, of Olustee, is being sought.
