Mural removal petition sparks protest

That was the mantra behind a rally held July 18 at the Baker County Courthouse that showed support of the mural, which depicts three hooded Klansmen on horseback among 42 other vignettes, that hangs inside. The mural, which was commissioned in 2001 and painted by the late county resident Eugene Barber, has become the center of a recent controversy after Jacksonville attorney John Phillips launched an online petition on July 14 to have it removed.
