Miss Baker County High School 2013 Whitney Moore competed to win entry into the Miss Florida Pageant on November 16 at the Miss Senior High Pageant in Orange Park.
A county-wide economic development initiative known as Choose Baker and touted as the path to more than 1300 new jobs and millions of dollars of growth locally kicked off last month following a year of planning and research.
The effort — led by the Baker County Chamber of Commerce, Baker County Development Commission and Choose Baker campaign director Shane Adams — is still raising capital from business and government agencies in the community, partly by presenting the details of its plan to enrich the county’s economy.
The plan entails creating a full-time position dedicated to wooing businesses to locate here and helping existing businesses expand. Beyond that, the plan calls for establishing a “new” Chamber of Commerce to serve as the hub of economic activity and tourism in Baker County. Read More »
Two breast cancer survivors, Elisa Reagan of Sanderson and Liz Taylor of Macclenny (2nd and 3rd from left in front row) won gift baskets worth $750 in gift cards and merchandise during a recent campaign by Country Federal Credit Union to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The credit union presented a check for $517 to the foundation on November 4, representing proceeds from raffles at its Macclenny and Baldwin branches, according to manager Anita Crews (left in photo). Thirty-five area businesses and individuals donated money and merchandise to fill the baskets.
