Keller Intermediate School’s chorus group Tigers in Tune performed for Kate Perry’s single Roar from her fourth album Prism for the school board and family membes the evening of November 19. The students, fourth and fifth graders, were led by fourth grade teacher Emily Bajalia. Pictured above in front from left are Shailee Curbow, Haley Harris, Benjamin Smith, Gabrielle Coffin and Nikky Martin. Sanderson native and retired Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office media spokesman Ken Jefferson was the guest speaker on November 12 at a class of 14 gifted students at Baker County High School. Mr. Jefferson, who retired from JSO after 24 years, talked about his years as a detective and what he learned about the criminal mind. He was born on a Baker County farm where his father Theotis still resides and attended Ribault HIgh in Jacksonville. He told the students he decided to enter law enforcement in the fifth grade, terming it “a calling, not just a job.” He also spoke of the art of questioning suspects and reading their body language. Mr. Jefferson is best known on the First Coast as the crime analyst for WJXT Channel 4 in Jacksonville, and revealed he plans a run for Duval County sheriff in 2015.
Free art classes for persons 18 and over will be offered at the Baker County Adult Education Center in Macclenny beginning in January.
The mediums include charcoal drawing, exploring color with pastels and acrylic, and the classes include live demonstrations and supplies. Read More »
