July 11th deadline for scholarships

The Baker County Education Foundation is again offering prior graduate scholarships for persons who did not attend college at the time of high school graduation. Makes President’s List

Sean Ward of Macclenny has been named to the President’s List at The Baptist College of Florida in Graceville.

To make the list, students must maintain a 4.0 grade point average (straight A).

Sean is the son of Edward and Susan Ward of Macclenny and a 2011 graduate of Baker County High School. He is a junior majoring in Christian studies.

President awards for top eighth graders

President's AwardThirty-seven eighth graders leaving Baker County Middle School this year received the 2013 President’s Education Award, which included a signed letter from President Barack Obama. They represent the top 10 percent of their class according to their cumulative GPAs from sixth, seventh and eighth grade.

They were honored at the eighth grade awards assembly.

Kiwanis touts final ‘terrific’ kids of 2012-13 school year

The Kiwanis Club of Baker County recognized Terrific Kids for the fourth quarter of the school year recently.
The motto of Kiwanis International is “Serving the Children of the World,” and to that end they sponsor programs for children of all ages. Terrific Kids is a program to promote character development and good citizenship.

Each quarter each teacher is asked to select one student from his or her class who exhibits at least one of the Terrific Kids traits:  Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive and Capable.
Those selected receive goodie bags with items supplied by local businesses, individuals and organizations.
