Kayden top reader at Westside



Nine-year-old Kayden Shedd of Sanderson garnered the most AR points for reading at Westside Elemetnary and the most ever for the school. His parents are Aaron and Callie Crosby and Greg Shedd. Mrs. Crosby said it took him all school year to read over 300 books to achieve 401.7 AR points. His favorite books are any of the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series because they are funny and very entertaining, she said.

Sixth graders raise more than $3000 for substitute teacher with breast cancer

The sixth grade class of Tara Rhoden and Karen Padgett at the middle school spent the final weeks of school raising more than $3000 for Joyce Peterson, a substitute preschool teacher, who was diagnosed with breast cancer and facing medical costs associated with a double mastectomy, chemo-therapy and reconstructive surgery. Jowers is third grade spelling champion

Camdyn Jowers (center) won Macclenny Elementary’s third grade spelling bee recently. She is from Becky Crews’ class and pictured with principal Debbie Fraser and Kinita Bishop, the bee’s moderator. The bee took place on May 27 with 22 participants, two from each of the school’s 11 classrooms.
