The Glen Nursery is hosting a slow country boil fundraiser in partnership with Slow Food First Coast on October 19 beginning at 1 pm. Florida Kiwanis is helping fund a “Reading in the Park” event for kids in pre-K through 3rd grade, from 10 to 11:30 am on October 12 at Celebration Park in Glen St. Mary. The club will help buy materials for the event, which will include hot dogs and soft drinks. Free books will be distributed at the event as well.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is offering a free hunter safety Internet-completion course in Baker County.

This year’s homecoming parade will be held Thursday, October 10. Line up will be at 4 pm. Start time is 5 pm. The parade will be extended to just past Moody’s Chevron and will end at the baseball fields. Please contact Melody Coggin at (904) 259-6286 and advise of your intent to participate. Participation and permission forms are here must be returned to Melody Coggin at BCHS no later than Monday, October 7 at 2 pm.

A Wildcat cheerleading camp will be held at the middle school gym on October 9 from 2:25-5 pm.
The camp will concentrate on cheers, chants, motion techniques and jumps, and is for students 4-13 years old.
It is sponsored by the BCHS competitive cheerleaders and registration forms are available at Harrington Insurance, Tangles and the concession stand at Memorial Stadium.

The United Methodist Church of Macclenny’s pumpkin patch will open to the public October 9 at 11 am. The pumpkin patch schedule is as follows: on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays it’s open from 11 am to 7 pm, on Wednesdays from 11 am to 5 pm, on Saturdays from 10 am to 6 pm and Sundays from 1 pm to 5 pm through October 31.

Bed, Bath & Barks, Inc. of Glen St. Mary is hosting a doggie pageant/talent show and other pet events to benefit Baker County Animal Control on October 5. Entry forms are available at the business, 8012 US 90 in Glen. Entry fees are $5 and all proceeds will go to animal control.
The pageant/talent show will begin at 9 am, with an obstacle course event at 10:30 am, a meet-and-greet with groomers at 12:30 pm, a K-9 drill team will show their stuff at 1:30 pm and there will be pet photography by appointment from 9 am to 3 pm. Door prizes will also be awarded during the event.

The Baker County Little League’s upcoming 2014 board of directors election will October 1 at 6:30 pm at the Knabb Sports Complex.
All 2013 baseball and softball managers have full voting privileges, as do certain stakeholders including past presidents, league umpires and league membership card holders.
All individuals interested in volunteering are encouraged to attend as well. Potential board members must pass a thorough background check.
