Charles Ruise Jr.’s double-double (12 points and 12 rebounds) and an almost perfect night behind the three-point line for Jesse Gardner (6-7) helped the BCHS Wildcats defeat the visiting Bishop Kenny Crusaders 57-42 on January 24.

The BCHS Wildcats’ district championship and playoff hopes were dashed by a 38-20 road loss at Bishop Kenny November 1 to close out the 2013 season.
Mistakes plagued the Wildcats throughout the night as freshman quarterback Joe Green threw three interception–including two returned for touchdowns–and the team committed 12 penalties.
The team wouldn’t go down without a fight and played hard all game long. Mike Boone closed out his high school career with another great game as he hauled in his first interception of the year and added a 73-yard touchdown reception.
The Wildcats scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit. Green found Anthony James on a 50-yard catch-and-run for a score, and running back Dalton Dyal forced his way into the end zone on a 3-yard run.
With the loss, Baker County ended its 2013 season with a 7-3 overall and 5-2 in District 3-5A.
The BCHS Wildcats won their home finale in dominating fashion with a 62-27 victory over Stanton October 25 to improve their record to 5-1 in District 3-5A play and 7-2 overall.
Mike Boone’s five touchdowns on the night propelled the Wildcats to the blowout win. Four of his scores came in the first half on two sweep plays of 15 and 14-yards and two punt returns of 45 and 82-yards. He added 78-yard touchdown reception on a slant from freshman quarterback Joe Green in the third quarter.
CeCe Jefferson led an impressive game from the Wildcats’ defense. The junior defense end had three of the team’s five sacks on the night and returned an interception for a touchdown in the first quarter.
The Wildcats must now prepare for their regular season finale when they travel to play the undefeated Bishop Kenny Crusaders November 1. The game could determine the District 3-5A champions and has major playoff implications.
