Cats come back to win 24-20 at Orange Park

The BCHS Wildcat football team erased a 17-point third quarter deficit to stun the Orange Park Raiders 24-20 in a pivotal District 5-5A game on Friday night.

Facing fourth-and-five and trailing 20-3, quarterback Owen Register connected on his first of two second-half touchdown passes on a 40-yard catch-and-run by Wesley Belford.

Register's second scoring pass, an 11-yard throw to Vyshawn Akin, completed the Cats' comeback early in the fourth quarter. Akins made an incredible play on the ball, coming back for the catch in the corner of the end zone.

In between Register's two scores, the special teams blocked a punt late in the third quarter, and Rod Haygood jumped on it in the back of the end zone for a touchdown.

The defense, which held Orange Park's old-school offense in check for most of the night, came up big in the final minutes. A fourth-down pass for Orange Park fell incomplete, and the Cats were able to run out the clock.

Baker County's third straight win improved the team to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in District 5-5A.

The Cats travel to Clay for another district game on October 23.
