Regional YMCAs, including the Baker County Y, will be offering free swim instruction in July to kindergarten through fifth graders on free or reduced school lunch.
Space is limited to 272 children and a Y membership is not required. The registration deadline is June 28.
BCMS Bobcat Coach Rock Rhoden has finalized the season schedule and the B’Cats have an exciting seven game lineup for the fall. The Bobcats begin the season with three non-conference games, two of which are on the road. They will then finish off their schedule with four straight conference contests.
The B-Cats will face a stern early season test when they travel to Madison County for the opener on August 27. They stay on the road the following week with a trip to Starke to face Bradford Middle School September 3.
Back when I was in junior high school, NBC aired Star Trek for the first time. I was a huge science fiction fan, but most of what passed for television science fiction was junk like Land of the Giants and Lost in Space. The only things worth seeing up to that point had been Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits.
Imagine my shock when I watched the first episode of Star Trek and saw a thoughtful show that was well acted and not filled with too many cheesy monsters and even cheesier villains. I was hooked.
I still am, and am pleased to say that Star Trek Into Darkness lives up to its hype and pedigree. Once again, director J.J. Abrams has created an appealing, well-acted, and very exciting new edition to the Star Trek lexicon.

If so, the BCHS FutureStars Drama Camp is probably for you. The camp runs June 24-28 at BCHS is a fun and exciting way to get kids 5-13 interested in performance.
Counselors from BCHS drama and the Baker County Community Theatre are on hand to teach kids all the basics of singing, dancing, stage movement and acting. At the end of each session they will show off their skills in a FutureStars Extravaganza musical performance.
