As you know, my mind works in mysterious ways, though most people just think of it as bizarre. Here are some of the things rattling around in there lately.

• When I was a kid, I hated to take a nap. Some of the biggest arguments with my mother were over the need for me to nap. I take it all back, Mom — I now love naps. I feel the same way about certain foods. I hated broccoli when I was a kid and often had to sit at the table and stare at it on my plate when I could have been off playing. Now it’s my favorite vegetable.

Nothing is quite so bad as that moment during an argument when you realize you’ve been wrong all along. I get that a lot.

I don’t understand social media all that much but I do know that TYPING IN ALL CAPS IS SUPPOSED TO MEAN YOU’RE SCREAMING. So why do some people “scream” all the time online? Do they scream all the time in their daily life as well? Maybe they are just screaming in their heads.

The BCMS Bobcat baseball team stands at 3-1 in its inaugural season with victories over Richardson Middle of Lake City and Lake Butler Middle.

The lone loss was to Suwannee Middle School. Prior to this week’s win over Richardson on March 5, Corey Adams was swinging the big bat for Coach Matt Turner’s B-Cats. Adams was hitting for a .714 average with five hits and four stolen bases.

Chaise Taylor was hitting .571 with four hits including a home run and four runs scored. Will Rhoden was hitting .600 with three hits and five runs scored. Cameron Jones won two games on the mound as starting pitcher.

The squad defeated Richardson for the second time on Tuesday, 7-4, behind a grand slam home run from Preston Sutton. Jordan Van Vactor got the win and Chaise Taylor the save for the B-Cats. The team trailed 4-0 for most of the game but scored all seven runs in the top of the seventh inning.

A two-hour Zumbathon held at Anytime Fitness on the windy and chilly morning of March 2 raised some $725 for the family of Corey Craig, who suffered a spinal injury in a vehicle accident last December that killed another teen, Jordan Sommise of Jacksonville.

Mr. Craig, who attended Baker High, is currently rehabilitating at an Atlanta hospital. The event featured non-stop dancing from the South 6th Street gym’s Zumba instructors.

Classes meet there six days a week. Zumba pairs thumping, fast-paced music with aerobic exercise and the Zumbathon drew some 70 participants, many of whom received gift cards raffled off from local businesses.

A white Dodge Charger led authorities on a high-speed, four-county chase on Interstate 10 eastbound before crashing near Sanderson about 10 am on February 28.

The driver, Terrick Shadon Lundy, 26, of Jacksonville was captured some three hours later by K-9 search teams from Baker Correctional Institution and the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) less than a quarter-mile from the wreck scene, ending a massive multi-agency manhunt.

Passenger Ronnie Bernard Williams, 31, of St. Augustine was critically injured when the vehicle, traveling at an estimated 100 mph, slammed into a large pine tree after Mr. Lundy tried to avoid stop sticks placed near the U.S. 90 interchange. He reportedly navigated around a similar obstruction in Columbia County.

Mr. Williams was taken to Fraser Hospital and flown to Shands Jacksonville. Neither suspect was wearing a seat belt, FHP’s report indicates.

A Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to pull the Charger over for speeding about 9:30 am on I-10 eastbound. During the traffic stop, the vehicle sped away and at some point the deputy fired at the car.

FHP’s account of the incident states the gun shots occurred before the vehicle fled the scene. A news release from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which is investigating the shooting at the request of Madison County authorities, said “an altercation occurred, shots were fired, and the chase began.”
