Macclenny to begin budget talks

The Macclenny City Commission will have its first discussion on the 2011-12 budget, which will begin October 1, at the city hall meeting chambers during its regular monthly meeting August 9. The meeting starts at 6:00 pm.

Harvey Leino II, infant, dies July 30

Harvey James Leino II, infant son of Harvey Leino and Sarah Proffitt, died July 30, 2011 at Orange Park Medical Center. He was preceded in death by grandfather James Dulls.

Survivors include his parents  of Middleburg; maternal grandparents Billy and Terri Proffitt  of Middleburg; paternal grandparents Fran Bentley of Green Cove Springs and Todd Leino of St. Augustine; maternal great grandmother Bella Harris of Maxville; paternal great-grandparents Cleo Dulls of Green Cove Springs and Irene and Arnold Harvey of Clay Hill. 

A graveside service was held August 3 at 10:00 am at Long Branch Cemetery in Maxville with Pastor Ben Harrell officiating. V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

Iris Westberry, 74, of Glen dies

Iris E. Westberry, 74, of Glen St. Mary died Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Acosta-Rua Center for Caring in Jacksonville.

A native of Sanderson, Mrs. Westberry was a daughter to Charney and Lecy Richardson Rhoden and had lived most of her life in Baker County. She was a charter member of the Macclenny Moose Lodge #2026, was of the Holiness faith and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Lawrence E. Westberry of Glen; son Butch Lee of Canada; brothers Ellis Rhoden of Sanderson and Gary (Roberta) Kirkland of Hastings; sisters Sherry Kirkland of Mandarin and Kay (Donald) Combs of Macclenny; step-sons Gary Westberry of Oswego, NY, Terry Michael Westberry of Fulton, NY and Larry Westberry of Watertown, NY; special friends Sam Waters, Billy and Brenda Roundtree, all of Macclenny; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Guerry Funeral Home.

Elizabeth N. Johnson, 69, of Jacksonville, NC dies

Elizabeth N. Johnson, 69, of Jacksonville, N.C. died July 29, 2011 at her home.

Mrs. Johnson worked for Ed Hurst Nationwide Insurance for the last 25 years as the office manager. She was preceded in death by parents Alvin T. Collins Sr., and Catherine Harrell Collins; brothers Alvin T. Collins Jr., Clifford Collins and Otis Collins.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Larry G. Johnson Sr.; sons Larry G. Johnson Jr., Shane A. (Lesley) Johnson and Tracy L. Johnson, all of Onslow County; grandchildren April Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Sammy Johnson and Trent Johnson;  great-grandson Callahan Gill; sisters Marguerite Spaulding, Catherine Grant of Taylor, Winnifred Spaulding, Martha Dreggers and Mary Lynne Rowell, all of Florida; brothers, Jerry Collins, David Collins, Daniel Collins and Phillip Collins, all of Florida.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. August 3 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with the Rev. Frinchie Pete Lowery officiating. Interment will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veteran Cemetery. Donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Mrs. Elizabeth N.
