Glen man killed in Palatka crossing the street

A Glen St. Mary man was killed crossing U.S. 17 on foot in Palatka early Saturday morning.

Zachary S. Vittetow, 28, crossed the southbound lanes of the highway about 2:45 a.m. at 1st Street just before the Memorial Bridge, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 2013 Nissan Sentra driven by Brandon James Knudsen, 24, of Satsuma, Fla. was heading south on the U.S. 17 when the car collided with the victim. The driver was wearing a seat and not injured.

FHP Trooper Z. Stephens' report shows the fatality is still under investigation, including whether the accident was alcohol related.

FHP spokesman Sgt. Dylan Bryan said the victim was in the area for a fishing tournament.
