The high school’s Rhythmettes dance team won top honors at last Saturday’s Diamond Cheer and Dance competition at the Prime Osborn Center in Jacksonville.
The group performed routines in the varsity pom and varsity jazz divisions, winning first place in both. They also were selected for the Diamond Award, which is given to the judges’ favorite performance, said team coach Jennifer Richardson.
Thirty-four teams competed that day, but the Rhythmettes were the only team not associated with a private dance studio.
The March 15 event began at 8 a.m. and the girls received their trophies about 12:45 p.m.
Ms. Richardson said it’s been five years since the Rhythmettes have competed.
